Biography
Danielle Marie Punches is a fine artist based in Baja California, Mexico. A California native, she was raised in West Africa, where her father introduced her to drawing. She fondly remembers going on sketching safaris in the jungle, sparking a lifelong passion for art and the beauty of the natural world. She continued to develop her artistic skills and earned a BA in studio art with a focus on printmaking. While studying in Florence she was introduced to the art of silk painting. Danielle has since had the privilege of traveling and living in many parts of the world and the eclectic influences of the diverse cultures she has experienced find their way into her art.
Danielle has worked in a variety of media and her art has taken many expressions, from printmaking, fashion design and even performance art. Her current focus on silk-painting fuses her first love of watercolor painting with her experience working with textiles as a couture designer.
Danielle currently lives and works in La Mision, Baja California with her two mares, Jade and Rocinante, and her filly Frida, named for her favorite Mexican artist. When she’s not making or teaching art she can usually be found on horseback, exploring the nature she loves.

Danielle Marie Punches es una artista localizada en Baja California, México. Nacida en Long Beach, CA. Fue criada al oeste de África donde su padre le enseño el arte del dibujo. Sus hermosas memorias dibujando en la selva africana hicieron que ella se apasione por el arte y la belleza natural. Ella continuo desarrollando sus habilidades artísticas llevándola a completar un bachelor de arte enfocada en grabado. Cuando estaba estudiando en Florencia aprendió el arte de pintura sobre seda. Danielle ha tenido el privilegio de viajar y vivir en diferentes partes del Mundo. Su arte ha sido influenciada por diversas culturas y experiencia vividas.
Danielle ha trabajando en varios materiales y su Arte tiene expresiones diversas, de grabado, diseño de moda y artes escénicas. Su enfoque de presente en pintura sobre seda se fusiona su primer afinidad por acuarela con su experiencia trabajando en textiles como diseñadora de alta costura.
Hoy día Danielle vive y trabaja en La Misión, Baja California con sus dos yeguas (Jade y Rocinante) y su potranca Frida, nombrado por la artista inspiradora mexicana. En cuando no esta pintando, se encuentra montando Caballo, explorando la naturaleza cual adora.
Artist Statement
My current body of work was born out of my personal journey to reclaim myself following a life crisis. Seeking solace on horseback, I explored every canyon and hidden trail of my valley, navigating the alien landscape of my emotions, simultaneously overwhelmed by grief and joy. The paradox of being human is that we cannot fully experience the heights unless we embrace the depths – love and loss, pleasure and pain, courage and fear. My art explores the space that exists in the tension between dualities – those ephemeral moments of intense beauty in which we are moved to tears as the revelation of being alive collides with the realization of our mortality.
I draw my inspiration from the natural surroundings of Baja California – stark landscapes, dramatic skies, wild-spirited horses, esoteric sea creatures, and the intricate geometry of native plants. From the spectacular to the mundane, I seek to capture the beauty that disrupts my life with wonder.
I paint on silk because I am obsessed with the sensuous texture and luminous colors that can only be captured in this medium. Part art, part chemistry, the ancient alchemy of pigments infused into silk fibers incarnates my intangible visions.
Declaracion Artistica
El trabajo presentado ha nacido de mis propias vivencias, re-conectándome conmigo misma venciendo una crisis personal. Cabalgue cada canon y Caminos Escondidos de Los valles que me rodeaban en la búsqueda de mi paz interior. Descubriendo así un mar de emociones extremas donde la felicidad y el dolor coexistían. La paradoxia de ser humanos es que no Podemos valorar los momentos buenos sin que hayamos vivido momentos malos. Amor y odio, placer y dolor, valentía y temor van de la mano. Mi arte explora el espacio que existe en la tensión entre dualidades – esos momentos efímeros de belleza intensa donde las lagrimas brotan al comprender nuestra mortalidad.
Me inspira la naturaleza que me rodea en Baja California. Paisajes desolados, cielos dramáticos, caballos salvajes, criaturas marinas esotéricas, y la geometría detallada de plantas nativas. Desde lo extraordinario hasta lo ordinario, busco capturar la belleza que me maravilla.
Yo pinto en Seda porque me obsesiona la textura sensual y luminosidad de colores que solo pueden ser captados en Este material. Parte Arte, parte química. La alquimia Antigua de pigmentos penetrados en Las fibras de seda encarna mis visiones intangibles.
